Economics is intellectual, it's practical, it's systematic (we have particular methods that we apply repeatedly to different problems). We're uncovering structure, and studying regularities in behavior. We use observation - casual, data collection and other measurement - and we conduct experiments.

If you think you have better methods, or some better empirical evidence to contribute, then you are free to fight for your ideas in the same systematic ways that all economists do. I'm not too sympathetic to armchair kibitzing though.Stephen Williamsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01434465858419028592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2499715909956774229.post-67732903499576452582011-08-27T09:41:01.135-07:002011-08-27T09:41:01.135-07:00Anonymous

He does tell some good stories, but lets remember thats what they are. Econ is about parables that give some insight into the way the world works. Lets not confuse it with science.
John Ksy has a nice article in this week's FT about modern econ.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2499715909956774229.post-43036428393383307882011-08-26T18:01:27.121-07:002011-08-26T18:01:27.121-07:00Generations of Minnesota students say the same.Generations of Minnesota students say the same.Stephen Williamsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01434465858419028592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2499715909956774229.post-56987325731953510452011-08-26T15:48:08.356-07:002011-08-26T15:48:08.356-07:00Bit of an awkward fellow, but always worth listeni...Bit of an awkward fellow, but always worth listening to.
